How to Request a Mail-In Ballot in Massachusetts
This year’s election for State Senator in the Plymouth-Barnstable district could not be more important—and Matt needs your support. Here’s how you can early vote or request a mail-in ballot in Massachusetts to ensure your voice is heard, even if you can’t make it to the polls on Election Day.
When Is In-Person Early Voting?
Early voting takes place from October 19 to November 1st. Please consult with your town clerk regarding their early voting schedule and location. Find your town clerk’s information, here.
Who Can Vote by Mail?
In Massachusetts, all registered voters are eligible to vote by mail. No special reason is needed to request a mail-in ballot.
Steps to Request Your Mail-In Ballot
- Download the Application Form:
- Visit the Massachusetts Secretary of the Commonwealth’s website to access the mail-in ballot application form.
- Fill Out the Form:
- Complete the form with your personal details, including your name, address, and other required information. Make sure all information is accurate to avoid delays.
- Submit Your Application:
- You can submit your completed application via online submission, mail, email, or fax to your local election office. Find your local election office contact information here.
- Receive Your Ballot:
- Once your application is processed, you will receive your mail-in ballot by mail. Follow the instructions included with your ballot to ensure it is filled out correctly.
- Return Your Ballot:
- After marking your ballot, return it to your local election office by mail or using a secure drop box. Make sure it is received before the close of polls on Election Day to ensure your vote is counted.
- You can still vote in person if:
- You applied to vote by mail, but never returned your ballot
- You mailed your ballot back, but it hasn’t reached your local election office
- Your ballot was received by your local election office, but it was rejected
- You can still vote in person if:
- After marking your ballot, return it to your local election office by mail or using a secure drop box. Make sure it is received before the close of polls on Election Day to ensure your vote is counted.
Important Deadlines
- Application Deadline:
- Your local election office must receive your mail-in ballot application by 5:00 PM on the 5th business day before the election.
- November 5th State Election: 5 p.m., Tuesday, October 29.
- Your local election office must receive your mail-in ballot application by 5:00 PM on the 5th business day before the election.
- Ballot Return Deadline:
- Your completed mail-in ballot must be received by the close of polls on Election Day.
- November 5th State Election
- If returned in person or by drop box: 8 p.m., November 5, 2024
- If returned by domestic mail: by 5 p.m. on November 8, 2024 (must be postmarked by Election Day)
- If returned by mail from outside the United States: 5 p.m. on November 15, 2024 (must be postmarked by Election Day.

- Your completed mail-in ballot must be received by the close of polls on Election Day.
