It is my privilege to be in the second year of my first term as State Representative for the First Plymouth District. I am honored to serve the people of Plymouth and advocate for good, efficient, and accountable government benefitting all Massachusetts residents. I have also been a leader in raising awareness of the opioid crisis and promoting constructive solutions including the comprehensive opioid abuse prevention legislation that passed this session.
As the 2015-2016 legislative session concludes, I am proud of the following accomplishments.
Committees:
- Ranking Minority Member of the Joint Committee on Tourism, Arts and Cultural Development
- Assistant Ranking Minority Member of the Joint Committee on Health Care Financing, in which capacity I have toured more than 15 health centers and hospitals across the state to better understand the needs of our health care system
- Member of the Joint Committee on State Administration and Regulatory Oversight
Other Appointments:
- Selected to serve on the Northeastern Fire Protection Commission
- Appointed to the Commonwealth Ocean Advisory Commission where I am a leading advocate for the concerns of coastal communities such as Plymouth
- Served as a member of the Public Records Conference Committee, which developed a public records reform bill that institutes much-needed reforms to increase openness, transparency, and public accountability
- Appointed to Special House Advisory Group on Managed Care Organizations (MCOs) which issued a detailed report of recommendations to Medicaid
Working with the Plymouth legislation delegation, I am proud of the following
accomplishments:
- Restored $302,000 in funding from previous Administration 9C cuts to complete the project to remove the Plymco Dam
- $400,000 from the Commonwealth to help enhance tourism through the Plymouth 400th Anniversary commemoration
- $227,092 in state road and bridge repair assistance as part of the Baker-Polito Administration’s Winter Recovery Assistance Program (WRAP)
- $200,000 from a state bond bill for the dredging of Plymouth Harbor – 2015
- $4 million grant from Mass Works to develop Cordage Park and the Town Wharf
- $1,050,000 landscape partnership grant from DCR to Tidmarsh Farm Conservation Project – Mass Audubon
- Massachusetts Cultural Council (MCC) grants totaling $86,900 to cultural organizations, schools, and communities in the district (2015)
- $1.5 million in Chapter 90 road funding for 2016
