3 questions for: Selectman Mathew Muratore, candidate for state rep. from the 1st Plymouth District
Question 1
Do you believe that the 400th anniversary celebration will make an important and lasting contribution to the town of Plymouth and, if so, is the state doing enough to support that celebration? What will you do, if elected as state representative, to increase the state’s support?
Since tourism is our number one industry, I am convinced that this celebration will have an important and lasting impact on the local and regional economy for many years to come. It will bring Plymouth to national and even international prominence as we share the story of our history with the world in a very public way. Our entire legislative delegation has been very proactive about obtaining funding for the 400th anniversary celebration in the state budget. For the past few years, they have successfully included matching grant funding in the annual budget for seed money for the Plymouth 400th, which has enabled Plymouth 400 Inc. to hire an executive director and other staff and to engage in planning activities and event promotions. As we are now less than six years away from 2020, the state must continue to help our community lay the groundwork for a successful 2020 celebration and a corresponding economic boost.
