State Rep. Matt Muratore is keeping busy at the State House as he serves his first term representing the 1st Plymouth District.

Muratore said he’s serving on several committees: “I’m on the Health Care Finance Committee, the Tourism Committee, the State Administration and Regulatory Oversight Committee, the State Regulatory Oversight Committee. We just had a meeting the other day on the public records law. Secretary of State Galvin came in to update those laws. They haven’t been updated since 1973. Next week we have meetings on Health Care Financing.”

State Representative Mathew Muratore of Plymouth says once he took office he hit the ground running, having only a week to file legislation — something that came as a shock to the Beacon Hill newcomer.
“I guess the biggest eye-opening was the bills — that all the bills were due on January 16th. So trying to figure out how do you do bills, number one, how do you create them, and then now it is all the co-sponsorships, what makes since to co-sponsor,” Muratore said during an interview at the State House.

State Sen. Vinny deMacedo, R-Plymouth, and state Rep. Mathew Muratore, R-Plymouth, have received their committee assignments for the upcoming legislative session.

MATT MURATORE: Tuesday a selectman, Wednesday a state representative

It was Matt Muratore’s last meeting as a member of the Plymouth Board of Selectmen before being sworn in the next day as a state representative at the State House in Boston.

Town bylaws prohibit individuals from holding two elected offices, so Muratore resigned from the Board of Selectmen as of midnight Tuesday.

It wasn’t close, not in the number of votes each received or in the dramatically different way their campaigns for state representative ended.

Tuesday night, before the final numbers came in, Plymouth Selectman Matt Muratore declared victory before a large, well-dressed crowd in a brightly decorated ballroom at the Radisson Hotel.
